Make it just a TV again

We catalogue, model by model, which preinstalled apps you can take off your television and what stops working when you do. One command, the interface the manufacturer documents itself, and the way back verified before anything gets published.

The panel is fine. What aged is everything else

A 2016 television has a panel that still gives an excellent picture and a processor that was never fast. On top of it sits software that stopped being updated years ago and that, with every season, added one more row of sponsored content, one more telemetry service, and one more second of waiting to get back to the home screen.

None of that is a fault. It is software, and software can be removed.

What we do and what we refuse to do

Being specific about this suits everyone: you know what you will find, and for us these limits are what makes the project possible at all.

Yes

  • Uninstall preinstalled apps over ADB, with no privileged access.
  • Document, per model, what stops working and how risky it is.
  • Publish the way back. Without it, the entry does not go live.

Never

  • Host firmware, system images or application files.
  • Get around verified boot or any content protection.
  • Charge to touch anyone's device.
